BCGEU members in public service ratify agreement

North Vancouver, BCGovernment

Members of the BC General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) ratified a mediation agreement that will benefit approximately 36,000 employees providing essential government services. The four-year agreement includes annual wage increases of 3% and targeted market adjustments for low wage and hard-to-recruit occupations. It also creates dedicated remote positions to enhance service delivery throughout British Columbia. This agreement is part of the 2025 Balanced Measures Mandate, which applies to broader public sector negotiations. Since 2014, public sector bargaining has adapted to address specific challenges impacting service delivery.

The BCGEU's agreement includes additional increases beyond those available to the wider public sector. With over 593,000 individuals employed in the provincial public sector, including approximately 452,000 unionized workers, this agreement has significant implications for labor relations in the region. Enhanced mandates aim to address affordability and labor market pressures affecting public service roles.
