More homes coming to Whistler for local workers, families
Whistler will soon welcome 125 new rental homes in the Cheakamus Crossing neighbourhood, addressing the urgent housing needs of local workers and families. This project, a collaboration between the Province, BC Housing, and the Resort Municipality of Whistler, aims to provide affordable housing options for essential community members, including hospitality staff and healthcare workers. The development will consist of 105 apartments and 20 townhomes, designed to accommodate various household sizes. Mayor Jack Crompton highlighted the significance of provincial funding in maintaining a sustainable workforce in Whistler. Construction began in June 2025 and is expected to conclude by late 2027, ensuring timely support for the community.
The initiative forms part of BC's $19-billion housing investment, which has already seen over 3,900 homes initiated for middle-income earners. Approximately 89% of applicants on Whistler Housing Authority’s waiting list require studio or one-bedroom units, underscoring the demand for smaller, affordable housing options. This project reflects a commitment to ensure that families can continue to thrive in Whistler's vibrant community.
