Kelowna families benefit from new child care centre
The Landmark YMCA child care centre in Kelowna has opened 53 new licensed child care spaces, enhancing local access to affordable care. This facility includes 12 spaces for infants and toddlers and 41 for children aged 2. 5 years to school age. Rohini Arora, B. C.
parliamentary secretary for child care, noted the importance of this initiative in promoting community ties and supporting parents' work-life balance. The project was funded with over $2. 4 million from the ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund, which receives joint support from provincial and federal governments. Anna Gainey, federal Secretary of State for Children and Youth, stressed the need for affordable child care options for Canadian families. Since its inception in 2018, ChildCareBC has facilitated the creation of over 41,500 new licensed spaces in the province.
The Landmark YMCA centre is part of a broader strategy to support families and enhance children's early learning experiences. This investment reflects a commitment to building a stronger and more inclusive community in Kelowna.
