Seismic improvements coming to Coquitlam River Bridge
The Ministry of Transportation and Transit announces a $6. 5 million upgrade to the Coquitlam River Bridge on Highway 7B to enhance safety and network resilience. The project will construct a multi-use path on the south side of the bridge, implement seismic upgrades, and add climate adaptations such as abutment modifications and concrete replacement. Work is anticipated to start this fall, with completion expected by fall 2026. During construction, lane widths will reduce from 3.
65 meters to 3 meters, and the speed limit will decrease to 40 km/h in the work zone. The existing bridge sidewalk will be closed, with a vehicle shuttle provided for pedestrians and cyclists. Motorists should plan for an additional five minutes of commute time due to construction. The project aims to enhance safety measures for cyclists and improve the overall functionality of the bridge. The upgrades respond to growing traffic demands and climate resilience needs in the region.
