The Province of British Columbia is allocating approximately $9 million to the Local Government Development Approvals Program (LGDAP) to assist local governments in expediting housing approvals. Minister Brittny Anderson underscored the program's role in enhancing community capacity to increase home construction efficiently. Previous LGDAP intakes have funded around 40 local governments, collectively providing about $19 million to streamline permitting systems. The third intake is set to open in early 2026, with funding expected to be distributed by mid-2026. Local leaders, including UBCM President Trish Mandewo, have expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming intake and its potential to ease housing development challenges.

Funding will support municipalities, regional districts, and the Islands Trust in overcoming barriers to housing development. The program aims to address pressing housing needs by facilitating quicker project approvals. This investment reflects a commitment to improving housing delivery and meeting community demands effectively.
