Expanded substance-use supports available for youth in B.C.
British Columbia has announced 12 new treatment beds in Surrey to support female, female-identifying, and non-binary youth facing substance-use challenges. The Healing House will provide live-in care for youth aged 17 to 24, allowing stays of up to 90 days. The program includes comprehensive supports such as therapy, life-skills training, and therapeutic activities like hiking. This initiative aims to improve long-term health and well-being for young individuals grappling with addiction. Officials emphasize the importance of accessible, compassionate care as youth face increasingly complex mental health issues.
The program is overseen by B. C. Children’s Hospital and operated by Coast Mental Health, ensuring trauma-informed care tailored to individual needs. The initiative reflects a commitment to enhancing recovery pathways and providing specialized support closer to home. This expansion is part of a larger effort to build a comprehensive network of mental health and substance-use services throughout the province.
