People invited to shape the Xwulqwselu (Koksilah) Water and Watershed Sustainability Plan
The Province and Cowichan Tribes have launched a survey to gather community input for the Koksilah Water and Watershed Sustainability Plan. The survey, open from September 18 to October 31, 2025, focuses on local water needs and potential solutions to improve summer water flows. Co-led by Cowichan Tribes and the Province, the Plan builds on extensive community engagement through various advisory groups over the past several years. An open house will be held on November 13, 2025, at the Quw’utsun’ Cultural and Conference Centre in Duncan, allowing residents to learn more and share their views. Additional engagement sessions will target key sectors, including agriculture and forestry, ensuring diverse input.
All water licensees in the planning area will receive formal notifications as part of the legal requirement. This initiative marks one of British Columbia's first legislated water-planning efforts, emphasizing the importance of balancing community, environmental, and economic needs within the watershed. Feedback from the survey and open house will inform recommendations for the Plan.
