Ksi Lisims LNG advances with environmental certificate
The Ksi Lisims LNG project, a collaboration between the Nisga’a Nation, Rockies LNG, and Western LNG, has obtained its environmental assessment certificate. Premier David Eby stated that the project is vital for diversifying British Columbia’s economy and reducing dependence on the U. S. market. With an expected contribution of $16.
8 billion to Canada’s GDP over 30 years, the facility will create thousands of jobs, including 800 during peak construction. Eva Clayton, president of the Nisg̱a’a Lisims Government, emphasized the importance of Indigenous leadership and sustainable self-determination in this venture. The facility will export approximately 12 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas annually to Asia, where demand for cleaner fuels is rising. It will also be net-zero ready by 2030, enhancing British Columbia's competitive edge in supplying lower-carbon energy. The project must adhere to 23 legally binding conditions to safeguard the environment, as outlined by Minister of Environment and Parks Tamara Davidson.
This development represents a significant step in reconciliation and economic empowerment for the Nisga’a people and other participating B. C. Nations.
