Eighteen affordable, accessible homes for seniors opened in Valemount, enhancing community connections for residents with mobility challenges. Christine Boyle, Minister of Housing, stated that seniors on fixed incomes deserve safe and stable housing. The new development at 1101 Ash St. includes 16 one-bedroom homes and two two-bedroom homes designed for accessibility. Each unit features energy-efficient construction and direct access to private outdoor garden patios.

The Valemount Senior Citizens Society will manage the building, which also offers amenities like a common dining room and a greenhouse. Mayor Owen Torgerson praised the collaboration that made this project possible, emphasizing its role in promoting active aging. The initiative is part of a larger $19-billion housing investment by the B. C. government, which has delivered over 93,600 homes since 2017.

Monthly rents for the new homes range from $445 to approximately $1,220, depending on unit size and resident income.
