A coroner’s inquest into the deaths of Janet Nguyen, Christopher Duong, and their two children will take place at Burnaby Coroners’ Court from October 6 to October 24, 2025. The BC Coroners Service reported these deaths on June 13, 2023, prompting the inquest. Janet was 35, Christopher was 38, while their sons Alexander and Harlan were four and two years old, respectively, at the time of their deaths. The inquest aims to establish the facts surrounding these deaths and provide recommendations to avoid similar tragedies. Presiding coroner Larry Marzinzik will oversee the proceedings, where witnesses will testify under oath.

The jury, while unable to assign legal responsibility, may issue recommendations based on the evidence presented. Strict regulations will govern media attendance, prohibiting any broadcasting or publication of proceedings. This inquiry underscores the importance of transparency in addressing public concerns about the circumstances of these tragic deaths.
