Carrier Sekani First Nations and B.C. renew commitment to reconciliation
The Province of British Columbia and seven Carrier Sekani First Nations reaffirmed their dedication to reconciliation by signing the Pathway Forward 3. 0 Agreement. This agreement builds on a series of previous agreements from 2015 to 2019, establishing a comprehensive framework for negotiation and collaboration. It aims to enhance self-determination and cultural practices among the Carrier Sekani communities while fostering economic development. The agreement includes provisions for land and resource management, particularly in forestry, aligning community priorities with regional economic opportunities.
Investments in infrastructure and health services are also part of the agreement, which focuses on cultural revitalization. This collaboration marks over a decade of partnership between the Carrier Sekani First Nations and the Province. By working together, the parties aim to support the growth of healthy, prosperous families and communities. This initiative highlights the importance of fostering strong connections to culture and the land.
