Final temporary closure of 2025 for Joffre Lakes Park planned for September
Pipi7iyekw/Joffre Lakes Park will close from September 2 to October 3, 2025, to allow the Lil’wat Nation and N’Quatqua to engage in cultural practices and support land recovery. This marks the final closure for the year, following a busy summer and a previous closure from April 25 to May 16. The park's management strategy, in place since 2021, focuses on balancing conservation efforts with public access. This year, the total number of closure dates aligns with the mutual agreement established last year, which included three temporary closure periods. The park has seen increased visitation, necessitating enhanced visitor management to prevent degradation.
The collaborative management aims to maintain the natural environment while honoring Indigenous cultural practices. Visitors are encouraged to check for updates on day-use passes and camping reservations before visiting. The strategy highlights the Province's commitment to fostering relationships with the Nations while ensuring sustainable park access.
