Province provides first report on community-based primary care services
The Province of British Columbia and the BC Green caucus released a report assessing the primary care system, revealing that nearly 750,000 residents have gained primary care providers since 2018. Minister of Health Josie Osborne noted that the report is a crucial step in optimizing resources and planning for future healthcare needs. The report highlights significant investments, including over $672 million allocated for primary care initiatives in 2025-26, which builds on more than $579 million from the previous year. MLA Jeremy Valeriote emphasized that the report enhances transparency and fosters dialogue among healthcare experts and the public. The second phase of this assessment will address barriers affecting community health centers and is scheduled for release in fall 2025.
The goal is to shape future policies and funding strategies to improve healthcare access across the province. These efforts reflect a commitment to enhance the primary care system and ensure that all British Columbians have access to necessary healthcare services. The ongoing collaboration between the Province and BC Green caucus signifies a progressive approach to healthcare reform.
