British Columbia reported 145 unregulated drug toxicity deaths in May and 147 in June 2025, predominantly affecting men aged 30 to 59. The highest fatalities were recorded in Fraser and Vancouver Coastal Health Authorities, accounting for 55% of the deaths. Fentanyl was present in 70% of toxicology tests, with methamphetamine and cocaine following closely. The crisis is exacerbated by a rising number of deaths linked to carfentanil. A significant 47% of fatalities occurred in private residences, underscoring the need for effective harm reduction strategies.
