Long-term repairs set to begin on North Beach rockslide
A $23. 2 million contract was awarded to Emil Anderson Construction Inc. for the long-term stabilization of Highway 97, set to begin in fall 2025. This project addresses the damage caused by an August 2023 rockslide that forced an immediate highway closure. The stabilization work will restore the highway's original four-lane configuration and include a retaining wall, catchment area, and installation of rock anchors for slope security.
Additional repairs will enhance the road surface and drainage systems. The initiative builds on previous geotechnical efforts, including controlled blasting and the installation of over 100 rock anchors completed by fall 2024. These improvements are essential for the safety and reliability of this key transportation corridor for Okanagan residents and visitors. Traffic impacts during construction will be communicated through advisories posted on Drive BC. Drivers are urged to exercise caution and follow traffic-control personnel’s directions.
