Infrastructure upgrades improve visitor experience in two Okanagan parks
Myra-Bellevue Park in B. C. will benefit from a $2. 1 million infrastructure upgrade, including a 60-space parking lot expansion and six new accessible toilets. Minister of Environment and Parks Tamara Davidson emphasized the park's natural beauty and historical significance, ensuring safe access for all visitors.
The project, initiated in 2021, also involved replacing the decking of 18 trestles along the Kettle Valley Rail Trail. These trestles have been widened to improve accessibility and facilitate two-way traffic for hikers and cyclists. The Friends of the South Slopes organization, under the leadership of Cam Kourany, has been instrumental in maintaining the trail networks, highlighting community involvement. The upgrades are part of a five-year, $21. 5 million investment in outdoor recreation access across the province.
At Monashee Park, a bridge replacement and campground expansion will further enhance outdoor activities. These improvements signify a commitment to preserving natural spaces and increasing accessibility for residents and visitors alike.
