Freshwater fishing licence sales streamlined to B.C.s WILD system
Starting in fall 2025, British Columbia will streamline freshwater fishing licence sales through the Wildlife Information and Licensing Data system (WILD), combining hunting and fishing licences on a single platform. Anglers must register for a free Fish and Wildlife ID (FWID) to purchase licences when sales commence in spring 2026. The new system enhances convenience by allowing B. C. residents to log in with their BC Services Card accounts, automating identity verification.
Since WILD's inception in 2016, online transactions have surged, with 93% of limited entry hunting applications and 30% of hunting licences purchased digitally. This expansion aims to improve data collection and facilitate informed decision-making for fish and wildlife management. Freshwater fishing plays a vital role in supporting local economies, particularly in rural and tourism-dependent areas. Licence fees contribute to conservation and research programs, reinforcing the importance of sustainable fishing practices. Approximately 350,000 anglers fish in B.
C. each year, highlighting the significance of this sector.
