City Council approves Motion authorizing Mayor to negotiate ILA with King County Sheriff's Office

On May 6, 2025, the North Bend City Council unanimously approved a motion to negotiate an interlocal agreement with the King County Sheriff’s Office, marking a significant shift from the Snoqualmie Police Department. Each councilmember praised the community's input and the rigorous evaluation process that led to this decision, which aims to enhance police services in North Bend. Councilmember Chris Rustik highlighted the limitations imposed by the existing contract with Snoqualmie, affecting the city's involvement in crucial decisions regarding police services. Mayor Pro Tem Mark Joselyn reassured residents that safety would remain a top priority under the Sheriff’s Office. The King County Sheriff’s Office previously presented extensive research during an April workstudy meeting, showcasing their capacity for service.

Councilmembers anticipate that the new interlocal agreement will improve communication and financial oversight. Mayor Miller emphasized the need for continued community engagement throughout the transition process. The Snoqualmie Police Department will remain in service until the new agreement is finalized, ensuring a smooth transition.
