North Bend City Council Greenlights Cedar Falls Way Sidewalk Project

North Bend, WALocal News

The North Bend City Council has unanimously approved a contract with PH Consulting to design pedestrian and stormwater improvements along Cedar Falls Way, an area identified for its safety concerns, particularly for students at Opstead Elementary School. The council emphasized the need for this project to address pedestrian safety and improve stormwater management. Councilmember Colan noted the significant safety benefits of new sidewalks, while Councilmember Torgerson highlighted the importance of safe access and effective stormwater solutions. Despite the enthusiasm, resident Michael Mike Thomas raised concerns about potential impacts on nearby septic systems, urging the need for mitigation measures. The design phase will include comprehensive surveys and evaluations to balance community needs with infrastructure development.

Construction is anticipated to start around mid-June, aligned with the end of the school year. North Bend is also exploring funding options, including a grant application for construction in 2026, to ensure the project's successful implementation.
