Prevent localized flooding by clearing your neighborhood storm drains and culverts

North Bend, WALocal News

North Bend city officials stress the need for residents to keep storm drains and culverts clear following recent storms that deposited debris. Accumulated leaves can block drainage, leading to flooding and safety concerns. Residents should check storm drains near their homes and remove debris with rakes, disposing of it properly in yard waste bins or compost piles. Raking or blowing leaves into the street is discouraged, as this can clog storm drains and hinder city street sweepers. Additionally, residents should trim low-hanging branches to allow equipment access without damage.

The city warns against removing storm drain grates, which can create hazardous conditions. Residents can report excessive debris by using the “Report An Issue” feature on the city’s website or by calling the Public Works after-hours emergency contact for major flooding issues. Maintaining gutters and downspouts is also essential as winter approaches.
