North Bend’s Wastewater Treatment Plant earned the Outstanding Performance Award from the Washington State Department of Ecology, recognizing its exemplary operations. Mayor Mary Miller praised the team’s commitment to water quality, while WWTP Manager Susan Welland stressed the importance of protecting the Snoqualmie River. Public Works Director Mark Rigos congratulated city employees for their dedication and thanked past council members for supporting facility upgrades. The 2024 completion of the WWTP High Priority Improvements marks the city’s largest capital project, enhancing treatment capacity and safety. Major upgrades include a new headworks, oxidation ditch, and clarifiers, aimed at improving operational efficiency.

This facility is crucial for maintaining a healthy ecosystem and preventing waterborne diseases in the community. Approximately 80 percent of residents are currently served by the wastewater treatment plant, with plans to expand services to more areas. The city aims to ensure safe water access for all residents while preserving vital natural resources.
