North Bend, WALocal News

Mayor Mary Miller declared September 29 through October 5 as a Week Without Driving in North Bend during the City Council meeting on September 16. She encouraged residents to embrace public transportation, biking, walking, and carpooling as alternative travel methods. This initiative highlights that thirty percent of Washington residents are nondrivers, including people with disabilities, young people, and seniors. Lyn McCarthy, the Coordinator for Hopelink’s Snoqualmie Valley Mobility Coalition, noted that reliable transportation is crucial for accessing employment, education, and essential services, especially in rural areas. The proclamation aims to foster community understanding of transportation needs and promote improvements to the current system.

By encouraging a week without driving, city officials hope to enhance transportation options for all residents. The full proclamation can be viewed on the city’s website. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to address transportation equity in the region.
