New interpretive signs share Snoqualmie Tribe culture and history at Dahlgren Family Park
Dahlgren Family Park has unveiled new interpretive signs to educate visitors about the Snoqualmie Tribe's rich heritage and its connection to the Snoqualmie River. The signs, located at 44120 SE North Bend Way, cover topics like canoe usage and river habitat restoration. North Bend Mayor Mary Miller remarked that the initiative promotes appreciation for Indigenous culture and the environment. Additionally, the park boasts a canoe play structure featuring Tribal artwork by Snoqualmie artist Bethany Fackrell. Snoqualmie Tribal Chairman Robert de los Angeles stressed the necessity of community participation in the conservation of the Snoqualmie River watershed.
The project exemplifies how public spaces can incorporate Indigenous storytelling to provide accurate cultural information. Visitors can also explore Tennant Trailhead Park, where trail names are presented in Lushootseed, along with a pronunciation guide. The Snoqualmie Tribe's commitment to sharing its culture fosters a deeper understanding among all park visitors.
