City Council Will Be Asked to Adopt Water Savings Plan
Moscow officials announced that the city’s water conservation plan, active since 2008, was never officially adopted despite ongoing efforts. Kelli Cooper, sustainability programs coordinator, requested support from the Moscow Sustainable Environment Commission, which unanimously agreed to endorse the updated plan. The initiative aims to enhance water savings through free devices and rebates for toilet and landscaping replacements. In addition, Cooper informed the commission that public comments on a draft wastewater discharge permit will be accepted until December 1, highlighting ongoing regulatory efforts. The city also committed to sponsoring the Energy Efficiency and Electrification Fair on April 4, promoting further environmental initiatives.
The commission's engagement reflects strong community involvement in sustainability efforts, with substantial participation from the high school Environmental Club. The updated conservation plan is expected to be presented to the City Council for approval, potentially before the year's end. This move underscores the city's commitment to sustainable water management practices.
