Four Recognized Nov. 13 For Historic Preservation
The Moscow Historic Preservation Commission will celebrate four honorees at its annual Orchid Awards on November 13, recognizing their contributions to preserving the city's historical integrity. Award recipients include the Kenworthy Theater for its marquee restoration, which Commissioner Renee Magee praised for maintaining traditional aesthetics rather than opting for digital displays. Doug Wasankari will also be honored for his work on the 1907 Wylie Lauder home, enhancing the preservation of Moscow's architectural history. The former Tomer home, owned by Steven and Mary Shook, will be recognized for its recent renovation, aiming to restore its appearance from the early 20th century. Dulce Kersting-Lark, head of Special Collections and Archives at the University of Idaho Library, will serve as the guest speaker during the ceremony.
The event will take place in the LeCompte Auditorium and is free to the public, with refreshments provided. This initiative underscores the city's commitment to maintaining its historical structures and community identity. The commission will not convene in December, with the next meeting scheduled for January 22.
