Transportation Commission Update Roundabouts, First Hayes Junction Added to Moscow Transportation Plan
The Moscow Transportation Commission approved several capital improvement projects aimed at improving traffic flow and safety, including new roundabouts at D and F Streets and a bridge replacement on Bridge Street. These projects will be incorporated into the city's Multi-Modal Transportation Plan, pending final approval from the city council. Funding will be sourced from federal, state, city, and private contributions. Local resident Tymothy Park raised concerns about the safety of bicycles and scooters on sidewalks, highlighting the potential danger to pedestrians. Commissioner Mary DuPree acknowledged existing restrictions but noted the difficulty in enforcement.
The commission will also consider outreach initiatives to educate the public on safe bicycle usage. Usage of the "Spin" e-scooter program has increased significantly, from 540 rides in June to 2,020 in August, coinciding with the return of University of Idaho students. The commission aims to address these safety concerns while implementing the planned improvements.
