Our Producer Takes On the City Budget Hearing
The Moscow City Council unanimously approved the FY2026 Annual Budget, amounting to $139,578,442, during a public hearing this week. City Administrator Bill Belknap outlined essential budget details, emphasizing that the Emergency Communications project will not require funding as it will complete before the fiscal year starts. The city's estimated property taxes are set to rise to $9,088,502, reflecting an adjustment made by the County Assessor's office. Public comments during the meeting included concerns about bike safety and appreciation for the council's efforts. Following the budget hearing, the council passed a fee resolution, which eliminated Artwalk fees and introduced new public records fees for nonresidents.
Various service fees saw increases, including sewer tap fees raised by 14% and tire disposal fees up by 37%. The fee resolution passed without any public testimony, raising questions about community engagement. This budget approval marks a significant step in local governance as it sets financial priorities for the coming year.
