Moriarty seeks aggravated sentence for immigrant in traffic fatality case noted by White House

Minneapolis, MNLocal News

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty's office is pursuing an aggravated sentence for German Adriano Llangari Inga, charged with killing Victoria Eileen Harwell in a drunk driving crash on August 3, 2024. Llangari Inga, 35, faces charges of criminal vehicular homicide, with prosecutors citing gross negligence and the presence of a child as aggravating factors. The state guidelines recommend a sentence ranging from 3½ to 4¾ years, but a jury's acceptance of the aggravating factors could lead to a harsher penalty. Llangari Inga was arrested by ICE on May 16 and remains in federal custody following the incident. The White House used this case to criticize local Democratic leaders for their handling of undocumented immigrant crime policies.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows Llangari Inga speeding and crossing into oncoming traffic before the collision, which resulted in Harwell's death and injuries to her daughter and sister. A preliminary breath test revealed Llangari Inga's blood alcohol content was 0. 171%, more than twice the legal limit. This case highlights ongoing tensions in immigration policy and public safety debates.
