Health Department reaccredited through Public Health Accreditation Board
The Minneapolis Health Department has proudly announced its reaccreditation by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) for another five years, reaffirming its dedication to national public health standards. Mayor Jacob Frey highlighted the department's innovative initiatives, including the Mobile Medical Unit and the nation’s first biochar facility, which aim to tackle pressing health issues like climate change and childhood lead poisoning. Health Commissioner Damōn Chaplin expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating it validates their commitment to serving the Minneapolis community effectively. Since first obtaining accreditation in 2016, the department has consistently upheld high standards of excellence in public health. This reaccreditation signifies not just a milestone but an ongoing commitment to improving community health outcomes through evidence-based practices.
The PHAB accreditation program, supported by the CDC, provides a framework for continuous improvement in public health services. As health departments proactively seek accreditation, they demonstrate leadership and accountability by engaging in peer reviews. This process ultimately enhances their ability to meet community needs and improve overall health equity.
