Frustrated Minneapolis tenants protest management after dealing with rodents, mold and feces
On Thursday, frustrated residents of Blaisdell Apartments in South Minneapolis staged a protest against Investment Property Group, the management company they accuse of neglecting their living conditions. Tenants reported severe issues such as vermin, mold, and broken doors, leading to unsafe environments. Organized by United Renters For Justice, the protest highlighted the struggles of families like Adrianna Mixon's, who felt compelled to adopt a cat to deal with a rat problem. Residents presented a list of demands, including the establishment of a 24/7 maintenance hotline, improved security, and a recall of eviction notices. Valerie Mack, a long-time resident facing eviction, shared her plight over lost rent payments, underscoring the challenges tenants face.
The new manager of Blaisdell Apartments, Tina Johnson, acknowledged the tenants' concerns and expressed a willingness to work together. This grassroots movement not only seeks immediate solutions but also emphasizes the importance of tenant rights within the community. With the Minnesota Attorney General's office previously taking action against Investment Property Group, the protest highlights ongoing issues that affect many renters in the area.
