Former Minnesota Spokesman Recorder publisher Wallace Jack Jackman dies at 81
Wallace “Jack” Jackman, former co-publisher of the Minnesota Spokesman Recorder, passed away at his Minneapolis home on October 27, 2025, at the age of 81 after a long battle with cancer. His family described him as a “stick of dynamite” for his energetic personality and extensive community connections. Jackman served as co-publisher from 1982 to 2006, during which he modernized the paper and founded initiatives like YouthSpeak newspaper and Black Pages, a directory of Black businesses. His daughter, Dauhn Jackman, highlighted his unwavering commitment to helping others, noting that he often shared his time and resources with the community. Jackman’s philanthropic efforts included sending a firetruck to Kenya, which was named “Jack” in his honor.
He also coached peewee football, instilling life skills and values in young players, many of whom referred to him as a father figure. His niece, Tracey Williams-Dillard, remembered him as a comedian who loved to travel and make the world a better place. Jackman’s legacy is celebrated through the lives he touched and the community connections he fostered.
