Petite Lens owners are ready to change everything except maybe that burger
Petite León will close its doors on December 31 to make way for a new restaurant that aims to better serve the south Minneapolis community. Owners Ben Siers-Rients and Travis Serbus-White are prioritizing a value-driven approach, reflecting significant input from employees who have advocated for changes like introducing happy hour. Since its inception in 2020, Petite León has undergone multiple transformations, including a shift to an employee profit-sharing model after founding chef Jorge Guzman left. Chef Ben Rockwell will debut a menu featuring handhelds and family-oriented dishes, while general manager Samantha Voigt plans to deepen the wine selection with affordable natural options. The bar manager, Peder Tune, is also re-evaluating which classic cocktails will remain on the menu.
The upcoming changes are rooted in the restaurant's commitment to the neighborhood and its workforce, emphasizing a local focus. Siers-Rients and Serbus-White, who also own Lynette and Little T’s, believe in fostering community connections through their establishments. They plan to reopen the new venue as swiftly as possible, honoring the building's historic roots.
