Five months of motoring misery on I-94 in Minneapolis to end with final weekend closure
A final weekend closure of Interstate 94 in downtown Minneapolis will restore full access for drivers. MnDOT will close the freeway from 10 p. m. Friday to 5 a. m.
Monday to remove barriers put in place during bridge repairs. Since April, traffic has been restricted to two lanes in each direction, leading to persistent backups. The $16 million project was designed to complete repairs ahead of the State Fair, which opens August 21, making the completion timely for local commuters and fairgoers. Entrance and exit ramps along the six-mile segment will close starting at 9 p. m.
Friday. Weather forecasts indicate potential heavy rain during the weekend, which could affect the work schedule. This closure marks the end of a challenging five-month period for drivers in the area. MnDOT encourages motorists to stay updated on road conditions.
