MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program
The Marysville Police Department has launched an Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program to enhance efforts against animal abuse, training over 460 officers from nearly 70 agencies since September. Officer Dave Vasconi highlighted the program's primary goal: rescuing animals from harmful situations and providing necessary medical care and new homes post-court cases. The initiative, developed in collaboration with Pasado’s Safe Haven, has already posted impressive results, increasing the number of animals saved and offenders held accountable. Vasconi expressed his deep passion for animal welfare, stating that animals depend on humans for care and compassion. The Director of Investigations and Rescue Operations at Pasado's Safe Haven acknowledged the program's success and the positive feedback from trained officers.
Marysville’s Community Service Unit specializes in investigating crimes against animals, often responding to numerous cruelty complaints each year. Citizens witnessing animal cruelty are urged to report incidents immediately by calling 911. This training reflects a growing commitment to animal welfare within the community.
