MPD Officer works to end animal suffering with new training program

Marysville, WALocal News

The Marysville Police Department's new Animal Cruelty Investigation Training program has trained over 460 officers from nearly 70 agencies since starting in September. The initiative aims to rescue animals from abuse and provide them with necessary medical care and future homes after legal proceedings. Community Service Officer Dave Vasconi, who is passionate about animal welfare, highlighted the responsibility humans have to care for voiceless animals. The program's positive results have led to greater accountability for individuals harming animals. Pasado's Safe Haven's Director of Investigations commended the efforts of the team involved in developing the training curriculum.

Marysville’s Community Service Unit specializes in enforcing state laws against animal cruelty, responding to numerous complaints annually. Officer Vasconi often arrests suspects and rescues abused animals, underscoring the program's local significance. Residents are urged to report any suspected animal cruelty by calling 911 immediately.
