Transportation Commission issues ferry fare proposal, sets Puget Sound Gateway toll rates

The Washington State Transportation Commission proposed ferry fare increases averaging 3% on October 1, 2025, and again on May 1, 2026, to fulfill a two-year revenue requirement of $408. 8 million. The proposal also includes raising the peak season surcharge from 25% to 35% and extending the expiration of multiride passes from 90 to 120 days. The commission approved toll rates for State Route 509 and 167 expressways, with tolling commencing in fall 2025 and December 2026, respectively. These tolls will adjust annually by 2.

15% starting July 1, 2030, pending commission approval. A $2 Pay By Mail toll rate for SR 167 express toll lanes was also approved, allowing drivers without a Good To Go! account to use the lanes. Public comments on the ferry fare changes are accepted until August 5, with a virtual hearing scheduled for August 6. The commission's decisions reflect input from the Ferry Advisory Committee on Tariff and community feedback.
