Girls on Run leader Megan Wolfe honored with Rick Steves Service Above Self award
Megan Wolfe, the Executive Director of Girls on the Run, was honored with the Rick Steves Service Above Self award at the Rotary Club of Edmonds, where around 50 community members gathered for the event. Over the past decade, Wolfe has focused on empowering girls and women, enhancing their confidence and personal growth through a commitment to diversity and inclusion. The organization, which started with just 40 girls, now influences over 5,000 lives across Snohomish County. Audrey Johnson, the Communications Director, described Wolfe as a bridge builder and a champion for those often overlooked, emphasizing her integral role in the Edmonds community. In her acceptance speech, Wolfe reflected on her personal journey and the transformative power of the work she does.
Keynote speaker Rick Steves underscored the significance of Wolfe's efforts, noting that similar outreach might face restrictions in other regions. He called for civic engagement and support for organizations like Girls on the Run, which foster equity and understanding. Wolfe's dedication and leadership serve as an inspiration for community members to engage in meaningful actions that uplift others.
