Lynnwood could have a farmers market by spring 2026
The Lynnwood City Council reviewed a proposal for a farmers market at the City Center Link light rail station during its Nov. 4 meeting, aiming for a launch by April 2026. The initiative, presented by Council President Nick Coelho and Lynnwood Chamber of Commerce President Frank Percival, involves a partnership with Sound Transit, which would host the market free of charge in exchange for sponsorship recognition. A refundable $5,000 security deposit is required to proceed with the planning. Percival emphasized the market's potential to become the busiest in Snohomish County, generating significant tax revenue for the city.
While most council members supported the proposal, Mayor Christine Frizzell and Councilmember David Parshall expressed concerns regarding logistics and the city’s budget deficit. In addition, the council discussed changes to its prosecutorial contract to address increased workloads, which would raise monthly costs from $56,040 to $67,468. The proposal reflects ongoing efforts to address an $8 million budget shortfall for 2026 while exploring new revenue sources. Council members aim to balance community development with fiscal responsibility amid evolving city needs.
