Community Transit moves to two-year budget process for 2026-27, with public comment now open
Community Transit introduced its draft budget for 2026-27, proposing an 18% increase in overall transit service, with public comments accepted until November 14. The balanced budget outlines $282. 1 million in 2026 and $290. 3 million in 2027, exceeding operating expenditures. CEO Ric Ilgenfritz emphasized safety enhancements, including the addition of 14 transit security officers and the installation of driver barrier doors on all buses.
The budget also initiates improvements for bus stop designs and funding for amenities at park and rides. In celebration of its 50th anniversary in 2026, the agency plans a public event to commemorate its contributions to Snohomish County. This budget fulfills the first two years of the agency's six-year Transit Development Plan, a key component of its long-range Journey 2050 plan. Community Transit aims to enhance both customer and employee safety through these measures. A public hearing will be held on November 6, allowing for further community engagement.
