Inside The District the project transforming Lynnwood from grey to green

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Lynnwood Public Facilities District (PFD) aims to establish “The District,” a downtown transformation project intended to replace nine acres of existing commercial buildings with mixed-use facilities. This initiative is expected to create over 800 jobs and generate nearly $80 million in economic impact, reflecting strong public support with 79% of residents favoring the development. The Lynnwood City Council has approved several measures to advance the project, including a $15 million loan to initiate construction. Concerns have arisen regarding the city's $11. 8 million budget deficit, as residents question the decision to pursue major projects.

However, the PFD insists that the development will not impose costs on the city, thanks to tax financing measures. The project is estimated to cost around $500 million in total, with the PFD covering $200 million for public facilities. The Lynnwood Event Center will be significantly expanded as part of the initiative, effectively doubling its size. The PFD remains optimistic that now is the right time to move forward despite economic uncertainties.
