Marine mammalogist Cindy R. Elliser will speak at the Edmonds Waterfront Center on Oct. 9, as part of Annie Crawley’s Environmental Speaker Series. Elliser, who is also the associate director of the Salish Sea Institute, has dedicated over a decade to studying harbor porpoises, the second smallest cetacean. Her groundbreaking research has demonstrated that these animals frequently return to the same waters, with some individuals returning for more than ten years.

The event begins at 6:30 p. m. , with doors opening at 6 p. m. , and tickets are priced at $7.

50. The Waterfront Center is located at 220 Railroad Ave. , Edmonds, and welcomes walk-ins as space permits. Accessibility features include subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing, as well as assistive listening devices. Elliser's findings emphasize the ecological importance of harbor porpoises in the Salish Sea, challenging previous assumptions about their behavior.

This presentation aims to raise awareness about marine conservation efforts in the region.
