Lynnwood Planning Commission hearing on The District contract Sept. 11
Lynnwood's Public Facilities District has proposed a redevelopment agreement for 13 acres surrounding the Lynnwood Event Center, referred to as The District. A public hearing is set for September 11 at 6:30 p. m. at City Hall, providing residents an opportunity to voice their opinions prior to the City Council's review later in the month. If approved, the city will extend 194th Street and build a new 38th Avenue to enhance access to The District, connecting it to the future City Center and major nearby roads.
The project will not incur costs for the city, as it will be financed through a Tax Increment Financing program approved by the council. This funding model is projected to accumulate approximately $24 million for future public infrastructure projects, with $10 million specifically allocated for the road construction. The District is part of several initiatives aimed at reimagining Lynnwood's downtown into a walkable, mixed-use area. The redevelopment aims to foster a transit-oriented community, enhancing local accessibility and economic activity. Residents can attend the meeting in person or via Zoom to stay informed and participate in the discussion.
