WSDOT Revive I-5 approaches the mid-point for this years major work
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced that significant progress has been made on the northbound I-5 Ship Canal Bridge, with contractors nearing the end of two weeks of work. They have removed the driving surface on roughly 900 feet of the left lanes and replaced five expansion joints along with about 60 drains. A full closure is scheduled from 11:59 p. m. on Friday, Aug.
15, to 5 a. m. on Monday, Aug. 18, affecting multiple on- and off-ramps. The closures will begin at 9:30 p.
m. on Friday, with mainline I-5 lanes shutting down just before midnight. Travelers heading north can use the express lanes, with the Columbia/Cherry on-ramp open to all drivers until early Saturday. This construction aims to enhance safety and extend the bridge's service life, addressing ongoing infrastructure needs in the region. The project reflects WSDOT's commitment to maintaining vital transportation routes.
Completing this work on schedule is crucial for minimizing disruptions to traffic flow in the area.
