'At Evelina we look after the child and the family'
Evelina London Children's Hospital, established in 2005, serves around 100,000 young patients annually, marking a significant advancement in pediatric care. Medical Director Dr. Sara Hanna vividly remembers the hospital's opening day, highlighting the transformative facilities compared to previous locations. The hospital's design incorporates curved wards and pull-down beds, promoting family involvement during treatment. The introduction of the EOS imaging machine dramatically reduces radiation exposure, offering an 80% decrease compared to traditional X-rays.
Bobbi, a 15-year-old patient, expressed relief at the speed and efficiency of her procedure, which helped ease her anxiety. Superintendent radiographer Lucy Clough noted that the new technology allows the hospital to process more patients with excellent feedback. The Evelina's history dates back to 1869 when it was initially funded by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild in memory of his wife. This commitment to family-centered care continues to shape its mission today.
