Locals angry after pavement left 'like a ski jump'
West Hampstead residents are voicing strong concerns over a newly constructed pavement on West End Lane, which they describe as resembling a "ski jump" and presenting significant trip hazards. Local Liberal Democrat councillor Janet Grauberg hopes for collaboration among stakeholders to quickly devise a solution. Campaigner Bridget Dunne expressed disbelief at the pavement's design, stating, "It's really quite astonishing that they thought that this was acceptable. " Ian Ferrie echoed these concerns, warning of the risks it poses to older individuals. Camden Council acknowledged that the pavement was laid by a developer without permission and apologized to residents for the oversight.
To mitigate the hazard, the council placed a planter on the footway to alert pedestrians to the slope. Plans to upgrade the footway are currently in development, aiming to restore safety and accessibility. Local advocacy highlights the urgency of rectifying the pavement situation to prevent accidents and enhance community safety.
