Drop-Off Brush Site in Leavenworth Closing for Good

Leavenworth, WALocal News

Leavenworth's drop-off brush site, which served residents for eight years, will permanently close due to low participation and financial challenges. Public Works Director Eric Pierson highlighted that the site once collected around 1,500 cubic yards of brush each year, but current revenues aren't enough to cover operational costs. Raising fees to over $150 per drop-off would be necessary for financial sustainability, a move that Pierson considers unreasonable. Residents within the apple maggot quarantine zone are encouraged to utilize Winton MFG Compost Works, which operates most days. For those outside the quarantine zone, yard waste can be dropped off at the Dryden and Chelan transfer stations, with the Chelan facility currently accepting brush.

The Dryden facility will begin accepting drop-offs in April. The county's decision emphasizes the need for effective waste management solutions in response to local regulations. For further details on yard debris disposal, residents can visit the Chelan County Solid Waste website.
