Former Issaquah Mayor AJ Culver Passes Away at 92
The City of Issaquah is mourning the loss of former Mayor AJ Culver, who passed away on April 9, 2025, at the age of 92. Culver's tenure as mayor from 1982 to 1989 was marked by significant contributions to the city and its surrounding region. His leadership extended beyond the mayor's office; he served in various influential roles, including head of the Municipal League of King County and chair of the Elections Oversight Committee. With a career at Boeing that lasted 32 years, he played a pivotal role in the Apollo moon landing, showcasing his expertise in aerospace engineering. In addition to his professional achievements, Culver was passionate about the outdoors, serving as president of the Seattle Mountaineers and engaging in mountain climbing.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, reflecting a family legacy of achievement. To honor his memory, the Issaquah City Hall will fly flags at half-mast from April 11-18, and a community meeting is scheduled for April 21, where remarks will be made in his honor. His passing marks the end of an era for Issaquah, as the community remembers a dedicated public servant.
