Goats Return to Issaquah Highlands on July 15

Issaquah, WALocal News

The Issaquah Highlands community is eagerly anticipating the return of its beloved vegetation-clearing goats on July 15, 2024, as part of a cherished summer tradition that has lasted 17 years. These goats will be present for 20 days, providing vital vegetation management while reducing the need for herbicides and machinery. This year will see modified service areas and time spent in the community due to changes by the Issaquah Highlands Community Association (IHCA). A significant highlight is the retirement of Craig Madsen, the long-time goat herder from Healing Hooves, marking an important transition for the community. Madsen has effectively utilized these agile goats to clear challenging terrains and foster community engagement through events like goat petting zoos.

Residents are invited to share their favorite goat photos, which will be featured in local media, further promoting community involvement. This initiative not only addresses ecological concerns but also emphasizes the strong bond between the community and nature, with the returning goats symbolizing environmental stewardship and a deep-rooted community tradition.
