WA Families Clean Energy Credits Program Launches

Issaquah, WALocal News

The Washington Department of Commerce has introduced the Washington Families Clean Energy Credits Program, designed to assist eligible electricity customers with a one-time $200 energy bill credit. This initiative is funded through the state’s Climate Commitment Act, aiming primarily to support low-income families earning 80% of the area median income, with potential support for moderate-income families as funding permits. In Issaquah, residents who are already part of Puget Sound Energy’s Bill Discount Rate program will automatically qualify for the credit. For those not enrolled, they can determine their eligibility by filling out an online application through the provided link. The program is particularly beneficial for families facing high energy costs, as those enrolled in the Bill Discount Rate can expect reductions in their monthly bills ranging from 5% to 45%.

The $200 credit is a one-time benefit that will be distributed to eligible customers by September 15, 2024. Residents are advised to apply for the Bill Discount Rate at least one to two weeks before this deadline to ensure eligibility for the credit. This program represents a significant step towards supporting vulnerable communities amid rising energy costs.
