Remembering Former City Councilmember Eileen Barber
Eileen Elaine Barber, a beloved former Issaquah City Councilmember, passed away on October 13, 2025, at 74 years old after a courageous fight against dementia. Originally from Mandan, North Dakota, Barber moved to Issaquah in 1976, where she became a trusted local business owner by operating the Ben Franklin store for 30 years. Her civic engagement included three terms on the city council, where she played a vital role in shaping local policy and community initiatives. Additionally, Barber held leadership positions in organizations such as the Issaquah Chamber of Commerce and Eastside Fire & Rescue. Known for her love of adventure, she was an avid skier and enjoyed kayaking across the Pacific Northwest.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for November 22 at Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home, where community members are invited to share memories. In lieu of flowers, her family asks for donations to support dementia research or local Issaquah causes. Barber’s legacy of service and dedication continues to impact the community.
